Opening the Door to New Possibilities

Door

How open are you to exploring new possibilities for yourself?

The wave of disruption and innovation ushered in by the pandemic has made things that you might have considered impossible three years ago possible now.

But you’ll only know if something is possible if you have the courage and curiosity to push out of your comfort zone and open the door to new possibilities

Take a minute and imagine your life as a room furnished with all the artifacts of your life   – relationships, work, hobbies, recreation, community activities. Some rooms may be very elaborate and colorful while others are simple and minimalist.

On one wall of the room there’s a beautiful door leading to the adjacent room.  The door is closed but a warm golden light shines around its edges and beckons you to open it.

That adjacent room of new possibilities offers you a fresh way of rearranging the furniture of your life – a new job, a different lifestyle, a relocation, new relationships, a career transition.

When you were younger, you couldn’t wait to open those doors and explore new possibilities!

As you opened one door after another, you went off to college, started a new job, moved to a new city and formed new relationships.

You discovered strengths and talents you never knew you had. You learned some hard lessons. You acquired new skills and moved forward in your career. And your life expanded.

And the more doors you opened, there was always another leading to more possibilities.  That’s how life is. The more you expand your life, the more new opportunities open up.  As you step into these opportunities   you continue to grow into your potential.

AT some point, you  may have gotten very comfortable in your life and were no longer as eager to keep opening those doors.

Perhaps, life challenges or career setbacks led you to seek safety and security, so you chose to remain where you were rather than venture outside your comfort zone.

And so, you remain in that unfulfilling   job or continue to tolerate a living situation that’s no longer sustainable.

You find yourself thinking the same old thoughts and having the same stale conversations with the same people.  The room of your life is cramped, shabby, and faded.   You feel like something’s missing.

You rationalize that where you are is just fine but occasionally, you wonder what might have been…

Are you being invited to open another door and explore some new possibilities for yourself?

Your invitation might be as subtle as a suggestion from a friend or something you read.  Or it might be packaged as a career upheaval, a business downturn, a health challenge, a retirement or an empty nest.

You can choose to ignore the invitation and stay in your shabby comfort zone.

Or you can choose open that door and step into a whole new world of possibilities for living, working and contributing.

What will you choose?
